To inspect and replace the spark plugs on your Slingshot, follow these steps:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, vehicles with AutoDrive leave in neutral, vehicles with manual transmission, leave in gear. Then set the parking brake.
2. Allow the engine to cool completely.
3. Open the hood.
4. Unplug the coil connectors from the ignition coils.
5. Remove the first ignition coil bolt with a 10mm socket and remove the rest of the ignition coil bolts with an 8mm socket.
6. Remove the ignition coils.
7. Before removing the spark plugs, use compressed air to remove any loose dirt or debris from the spark plug wells.
8. Continue by removing the spark plugs using a 5/8” spark plug socket with extension.
9. Inspect the electrodes for wear and carbon buildup. A good plug will have a sharp outer edge with no rounding or erosion of the electrodes.
10. Do not attempt to adjust the spark plug gap.
11. Reinstall the spark plugs or install new plugs.
12. Torque the spark plugs to 9 ft-lbs (12 Nm).
13. Reinstall the ignition coils. Tip: Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the boots before installing.
14. Reinstall the ignition coil bolts and torque to 7.5 ft-lbs (10 Nm).
15. Connect the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.
16. Start the engine and ensure there are no warning lights present.
