The following is a copy of the T-21-01 Consumer Letter. Vehicles affected by this bulletin will receive notification by mail to the address the vehicle is registered to.
Dear Slingshot Owner,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Polaris has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 2020-2021 Slingshot vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. Our records show you have purchased an affected vehicle.
The reason for this notice:
Slingshot vehicles may have rear wheel studs that were not pressed into the axle fully during the supplier’s assembly process. An improperly installed rear wheel stud could lead to loosening of the rear lug nuts, resulting in a loose or detached rear wheel during operation, increasing the risk of a crash. Prior to a crash, wheel noise or vibration could occur.
What you should do:
Contact your authorized Slingshot dealer to schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed. Do not attempt repairs yourself. Repairs must be done only by an authorized Slingshot dealer. This repair should take approximately 2 hours. When making contact with your dealer, discuss parts availability, their schedule and how long they will need to keep your vehicle.
What your dealership will do:
To address this concern, Polaris has authorized your dealer to inspect, and if needed, replace the rear axle. This work will be performed by your dealer at no cost to you.
This notice was mailed to you according to our most current registration information. If you no longer own this vehicle, or if some of the contact information in this notice is incorrect, please contact your dealer to complete a transfer of ownership.
