Slingshot Keyless Ignition and Security System Operation

Model year 2020 and newer Slingshot models feature key fobs, keyless ignition and a security system for theft. Vehicles are shipped with the security system turned off and must be enabled by a dealership to be able to use it. See your authorized Slingshot Dealer to have your security system activated. Security functions can also be activated via the touchscreen display with RIDE COMMAND or the instrument cluster.

The wireless key fob allows access to vehicle operation. Slingshot Base S models require the addition of a two-button fob for use, which can be purchased and installed by your authorized Slingshot Dealer. The key fob should not be stored near devices that can cause interference with radio waves, such as cell phones, power supplies or magnets.

Note: If a user passcode has not already been set, the master passcode must be entered. See your authorized Slingshot Dealer to obtain the master passcode.

Change the factory-set passcode to a new four-digit passcode of your choosing and select the desired security setting as soon as possible after receiving delivery of your new Slingshot. Record your new user passcode and keep it in a safe location. Do not place your passcode anywhere in the vehicle. After the passcode is entered, a slight delay before the starter engages is normal.

To start your Slingshot with its key fob, observe the following guidelines.

Activating the Alarm
The security system must be enabled by a dealership before use.

To activate the alarm, press the LOCK button on the key fob. The horn will sound briefly and lights flash to confirm that the alarm is activated.

If the engine start/stop button is pressed or the clutch/brake is pushed when the vehicle is in the locked state and the key fob is out of range, the alarm will sound the horn and flash headlights after a timed delay. The security system automatically immobilizes the engine when the key fob is outside of range and enables when the key fob is within range.

Note: If the vehicle sits locked for 7 days or the battery becomes low, the system will deactivate.

Deactivating the Alarm
The key fob must be within range to deactivate the security system. If the key fob is not detected, the security light will flash, the electrical system will automatically shut down and the starter motor will not engage during this time.

To deactivate the alarm, press the UNLOCK button on the fob or press the power button on the console panel while the key fob is within range. After pushing the engine start/stop button, the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) will verify that the key fob is within range. The VCM will not search for the key fob again until after the ignition is turned off and then back on again. If a key fob is not available or is lost while operating the vehicle, a passcode can be entered using the vehicle's touchscreen display or instrument cluster.

The vehicle's key fob will become inactive if a period of 7 days has elapsed since last startup. Pressing the engine start/stop button and/or clutch/brake pedal will reestablish the connection between the VCM and the key fob. While the connection is inactive, you will not be able to arm the alarm system until a connection has been reestablished.

Passcode Entry on the Display Powered by RIDE COMMAND
If the key fob is not found by the VCM, the display will prompt the operator to enter a passcode to unlock vehicle operation. Use the number pad to enter your user passcode or the master passcode.

If the entry is correct, the vehicle can be operated as normal. If the entry is incorrect, the screen will display "Incorrect Passcode. Try again." If more than five unsuccessful attempts are made, the screen will display "Too many passcode attempts. System will shut down." This will require an ignition cycle before further attempts can be made.

Changing Your Passcode on the Display Powered by RIDE COMMAND
Perform the following steps to change the vehicle passcode. Note that if a user passcode has not already been set, the master passcode must be enter. See your authorized dealer for master passcode entry.

1. Go to Settings by touching the Slingshot logo at the top of the screen and then touching the ALL SETTINGS button in the lower-right corner.

2. Select the VEHICLE tab on the left side of the screen and then select PASSCODE UNLOCK.

3. Touch the CHANGE PASSCODE button.

4. Follow the screen prompts to edit the vehicle passcode.

If new passcode verification is successful, the screen will display "New code accepted." The new user passcode may now be used to unlock vehicle operation.

If the new passcode verification is unsuccessful, the screen will display "Enter Current Code," and you will need to re-enter the new passcode.

If the second verification attempt is unsuccessful, the screen will display "New codes did not match," and the screen will prompt you to enter and verify a new passcode again.

Passcode Entry on the Instrument Cluster
If your vehicle is not equipped with the display powered by RIDE COMMAND, the instrument cluster is used to enter/edit passcodes if the key fob is not within range.

instrument cluster

If the key fob is not found by the VCM, the instrument cluster will prompt the operator to enter a passcode to unlock vehicle operation.

1. "ENTER PASSCODE" will appear on the screen.

2. Use the Toggle Up (1) and Toggle Down (2) buttons to the right of the instrument cluster to increment 0 through 9 for the first (left-most) digit of your user passcode or the master passcode. If a user passcode has not been set, the master passcode must be entered.

3. Push the Mode button (3) to accept the current number and then toggle up or down (1 and 2) to select the next number.

4. Repeat this procedure to enter the remaining three numbers.

If the passcode entry is correct, the vehicle can be operated as normal.

If the passcode is incorrect, "Wrong Passcode" will appear on the screen, and you will be prompted to re-enter the passcode. If more than five unsuccessful entry attempts are made, the screen will show "Attempts Exceeded." This will require an ignition cycle before further attempts can be made.

Changing Your Passcode on the Instrument Cluster
Perform the following steps to change the vehicle passcode.

1. Press and hold the Mode (1) button. This will bring you to the Settings page.

2. Use the Toggle Up (1) and Toggle Down (2) buttons to scroll until the screen displays "Change Passcode." Press the Mode button to select.

3. The screen will display "Enter Current Passcode." Use the toggle up/down buttons to increment 0 through 9 for the first (left-most) digit of your current user passcode or the master passcode. If a user passcode has not been set, the master passcode must be entered.

4. Push the Mode button to accept the current number and then toggle up/down to select the next number.

5. Repeat the procedure to enter the remaining three numbers.

6. If the passcode is accepted, the screen will display "Enter New Passcode."

7. Enter a new passcode using the procedure outlined in steps 3-5.

8. Once complete, the screen will display "Verify New Passcode." Re-enter the same new passcode.

If the two passcode entries match, the screen will display "Passcode Change Successful." The new passcode may now be used to unlock vehicle operation.

If the two passcode entries do not match, the screen will display "Wrong Passcode," and the screen will prompt you to make another attempt.

If the second attempt is unsuccessful, the screen will display "Passcodes Do Not Match" and will prompt you to "Enter New Passcode" again (restarting the process at step 6 above).
