Slingshot History: From Concept To Reality

Slingshot was designed to look different, feel different, be different. We wanted to evoke the senses and deliver something truly unique to all those people out there just like us. With this mission in mind, we formed a team of skilled designers and engineers to push the boundaries of what we thought was possible. The vehicle you see today speaks for itself. The Ultimate Joyride™ was born.

Every idea at Polaris starts with a question. How do we create an experience that defines fun?

Originally conceived as a prototype by a group of Polaris engineers in 2010, the idea got the same response as most things fun at Polaris - Build it! Slingshot quickly advanced from prototype to production, which began in 2014 at Spirit Lake, IA. Vehicles started arriving in dealers later that year. The first offerings were the 2015 Slingshot S and SL models.

The Original Model, Upgraded For Today, Is Still Available

Providing tremendous performance with all the room you need to make it your own, this one may be for you. A direct descendant of the original model, the Slingshot S continues to deliver huge grins and versatility, all starting at $20,999.

The Reaction to Slingshot Never Changes

The SL Enhanced Fun With Technology And Style

The SL was the second model available at launch and was created for those who want a little more than the basics. It started with the same 2.4L Ecotec 4 cylinder engine and 173 horsepower as the S. Then we added a 7" multi-touch display, backup camera and larger custom wheels for starters. You can get all this starting at just $26,499.

Slingshot Continued Evolution

Polaris continues to manufacture Slingshot in the US, specifically in Huntsville, AL. Over the years, new models have been added to the lineup, making upgrades like turn-by-turn navigation, unique colors, larger alloy wheels, and even the Slingshade, available straight from the factory.

The SLR Is The Evolution Of Slingshot Performance

The SLR came along in 2017, elevating performance to new levels for the Slingshot line. Adding forged wheels, sport seats, two-tone paint and Sparco accessories add the performance. The included turn-by-turn navigation ensures you make it back from wherever your Joyride takes you. Starting at $29,999.

More About Polaris Slingshot

The Slingshot raises a lot of questions. One of the most common questions is "What is it?". The simplest answer is FUN. Slingshot has been described as a lot of things, but technically, it is a three wheeled autocycle like nothing you've experienced before.

An Evolution Toward Comfort And Luxury

In 2018 the Grand Touring was added to the line with comfort and luxury touches in mind. The Slingshot Grand Touring adds metallic paint, color matched fenders, quilted comfort seats and a color matched Slingshade top. All this adds up to a Slingshot made especially for the long and winding road, assuming you don't mind stopping to answer questions and shake some hands occassionally. This ultimate Slingshot experience starts out at only $30,999.

What's Next For Slingshot

We are always searching for ways to make the Polaris Slingshot even more fun. You can see how far we've come in the last five years and we have no plans to sit still now. Enhancements have come by way of everything from paint and seats to the addition of game changing additions like Ride Command and Slingshade. We can't say exactly what's next but there is no better time than now to check out the current lineup and make sure you are first in line to find out about what is next.
