2020+ Slingshot Prostar 2.0 Pre-Ride Inspection

Before you ride your model year 2020 or newer Slingshot, perform the pre-ride inspection as described in your Owner's Manual. Read, understand and follow all of the instructions, warnings and safety precautions in the Owner's Manual and on all product labels. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.

When performing the pre-ride inspection, do the following:

1. Begin with a visual inspection of the vehicle, looking for debris, leaks and worn components that may impair the vehicle’s operation.

2. Pay particular attention to the radiator area for the accumulation of debris, which can cause the engine to overheat, and clean any debris that is found.

3. Check the condition of the tires, looking for any signs of punctures or damage, and verify proper tread depth.

4. Ensure the tire pressures are also to specification. The tire pressure for front tires should be 28 psi (193 kPa). The rear tire pressure should be 32 psi (221 kPa).

5. Inspect the brake pads and rotors, looking for corrosion, nicks or burrs.

6. Check the front and rear suspension for leaks, debris and damage.

7. Inspect the rear drive belt for wear or damage.

8. With the vehicle in neutral, pull the parking brake lever and verify the vehicle does not roll.

9. Next, pull upward on the hood latch. Then pull back on the underside of the hood above the center LED lamp with both hands to open the hood.

10. Inspect the intake system for blockage or debris, and clean as needed. Avoid spraying water directly into the intake system, as this can result in water intrusion into the engine.

11. With the vehicle on a flat, level surface, inspect the following fluid levels while the engine is COLD.

  • Start with the coolant level in the overflow bottle at the rear of the engine bay. Add coolant as needed. To avoid the risk of burns, do not remove the pressure cap while the engine is hot.
  • Next, inspect the brake reservoirs for proper fluid level and add fluid as needed. A flashlight can be used to illuminate the reservoirs in dark areas.

12. Next, inspect the engine oil level. Ensuring the parking brake is set, start the engine in a well-ventilated area. Verify the low oil pressure light is not illuminated and allow the engine to idle for 2 to 3 minutes for an accurate oil measurement.

13. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe with a clean shop towel.

14. Then reinstall the oil dipstick fully and remove to inspect the oil level.

15. Add oil as needed to bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.

16. Reinstall the dipstick and wipe up any residual oil.

17. Close the hood by pulling up on the center of the hood and pivoting toward the vehicle. Allow the hood to drop and ensure all four latch points are secure.

18. Next, sit in the vehicle and ensure smooth operation of the steering system by turning from full left to full right.

19. Turn the key on and inspect the headlights, high beams, turn signals, hazard warning flashers, taillights, brake lights and license plate light for proper operation.

20. Press the horn button and verify proper operation.

21. Test the brake and accelerator pedals for any binding or sticking.

22. Most importantly, check the condition and function of the seat belts.

  • Pull the seat belts completely out and inspect for cuts, wear, fraying, dirt, debris or stiffness.
  • Also test the buckles and latches for proper operation.

23. Finish by adjusting your mirrors as needed before departing.
